Restless leg syndrome in a child but whole body not just legs?

My son is 3 1/2 and has autism, for the past 16 nights he has been unable to settle himself to sleep, he jerks sort of like restless leg syndrome but it’s his whole body he wants to settle and gets upset because he can’t our paediatrician wants us to try melatonin but I’m not keen as nobody seems to know if there are any long term effects. OT doesn’t seem to know what it could be, it’s a long shot but wondered if anyone had any suggestions.
