The place in my S10 where the key goes is broken and I don’t even need a key to start my truck. I bought a piece that supposedly can replace it but I’m not sure how to and I’m too broke to take it to anyone who can. My dad says it’s too big of a pain in the butt to do it so he won’t help me. Can someone give me a step-by-step, please? A: I’m not sure but I think the truck is equipped with an air bag. If so, the absolutely first thing to do is dis-connect the battery and then the airbag under the steering column. FAILURE TO DIS-CONNECT THE AIR BAG CAN RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. Next remove the horn/air bag in the center of the steering wheel. There are two phillips screws that must be removed from under the steering wheel. The horn mechanism can now be removed. Disconnect the one wire from the horn and remove the remaining horn mechanism. Next you’ll need a special tool to remove the retaining ring from the slotted wheel for the steering lock.
