Regarding International Adoption: Is there a difference in ethics if…..?
I don’t think there’s really much difference in the ethics of the adoption itself, but I do think it’s unethical to go into an adoption without sufficient preparation to meet the child’s needs– emotional needs, not just a bed and food, etc. The prospective adoptive parents would still follow the same legal procedure, the birth certificate would be just as sealed, that has no impact on whether the child has living biological relatives who could care for that child if they had a support system, and the child will still be taken away from homeland, culture, and language by someone who is basically a stranger. (In modern international adoption through an agency, most prospective adoptive parents travel and have transitional visits, so the child wouldn’t necessarily know their new guardians any better if they just happened to meet at the orphanage than through this arrangement.)
