Rediff also offers mobile value-added services (VAS) like ringtones and wallpapers. What is your business model here?
A. Its simple. We are offering wallpapers, ringtones and other value-added services. Unfortunately, the lions share (75 per cent) of the revenues goes to telecom operators. The remaining 25 per cent is shared between the publisher, content provider and royalty. Frankly, there is not much of profitability for the telcos in voice services. Publishers like us are left pretty high and dry with 25 per cent. They are busy promoting their basic services. We need telecom companies who dont focus on numbers but move up the value chain, like Virgin Mobile. Very soon we will have players like that and the telecom market will evolve.
