You don’t actually HAVE to have one of these to use the software. However, you’ll get very little use out of the program if you can’t burn CDs (that is what it’s made for, after all). There are users who run CD-Recorder V3 simply for the restoration filters (DeClick and DeHiss) and for the ability to convert MP3 files to WAV files or MID files to WAV files.
