The Tennessee Chapter of NASW recommends you retire your license and do not simply allow it to expire. Persons who request reinstatement of a license or certificate that has expired must pay all past due renewal fees and state regulatory fees, pay the late renewal fee and provide documentation of successfully completing continuing education requirements for every year the license or certificate was expired. A person who is not practicing and does not intend to practice in Tennessee and thus does not intend to use the title LMSW or LCSW may apply to convert their certificate or license to retired status. The person seeking retirement must obtain from, complete and submit to the board’s administrative office an affidavit of retirement form and submit any documentation which may be required by the form to the board’s administrative office.
