Yes, all fluorescent lamps contain a tiny amount of mercury. If handled correctly, however it poses no threat. Do not break or let children play with CFLs. (That mercury is less than the mercury that would otherwise be emitted into the air from the coal-fired power plant if it were to burn the 3X greater amount of coal to power its incandescent equivalent!) Store spent lamps in the packaging of replacement bulbs until you can properly dispose of them. Residents of Metro Louisville may take them to HazBin (and some Home Depot) locations for free disposal.
