Reader Where on Earth Can I Still Buy Stereo Components? Sunday February 22, 2009 A reader emailed me last week wondering who is selling stereo components in brick and mortar stores anymore. He wanted to audition stereo components for a system costing around $1500 and could not find a store in his metro area. I can’t suggest big box stores (I should say store, because Circuit City is going out of business) because on my last visit I discovered only one stereo receiver on display and it wasn’t connected to speakers for demonstration. I happened to know of a few dealers in the reader’s general area so I passed along the names. However, for many buyers it is almost impossible to find an audio specialist with a showroom and knowledgeable salespeople. Unfortunately, many have gone out of business, forced to close because of competition from big box retailers.
