Rather than giving extra jars of baby food to clients, shouldn’t we be teaching mothers how to make their own baby food from healthy “real” food?

Response: We still encourage staff to teach mothers how to make their own baby food. This would be especially useful for moms who choose the mostly breastfeeding or formula packages since they will not receive as much baby food as moms who choose the exclusive breastfeeding food package. If you would like to provide comments to the US Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service about the federal WIC food rule such as providing food grinders instead of baby food, go to the Regulations.gov Public Comment and Submission Form. USDA/FNS will accept comments on the federal WIC food interim rule before February 1, 2010.
