Questions regarding UIU system and Firewall, open ports, OSs, and Browsers?
This document is a rather technical one, and is directed to the “IT” person(s) in your company. This person needs technical network related info to get you connected to the UIU system. Networking environment regarding UIU Online Learning Systems: • The server environment is Microsoft Exchange 2003 Enterprise servers. • The individual protocols we are using include: • HTTP for web-site access • POP3 for mail reception • SMTP for mail transmission • NNTP for class postings • No certificates are being used for normal class work (postings, e-mail) • The primary (i.e. supported) software for class-work includes: • Microsoft Outlook Express, version 6.0, using NNTP and POP3/SMTP protocol • Microsoft “Outlook Web Access” 2003, HTTP protocol • Plain FTP software if downloads are required, i.e. OXM… • Most often used OS’s include: • Windows 98, Second Edition, release SR2; (assure that Winsocket 2.0 is installed, as well as all other IP security updates).
