Questions about child care…does every childminder have to be registered with Ofsted?

Yes she does have to be registered, however she will be able to use her experience during registration and her home will probably already meet the required standards, she will be able to do the training whilst working as a childminder, ask her to contact your local authority for a childminder pack and further advice so that you can both find out whats involved. She would also need to declare her intentions to the fostering department as this may affect her eligibility to foster more young children. Some of her training will be able to be used as a credit for prior learning if she undertakes the NVQ3 which is what most childminders are working towards. and assessment is done whilst she works in her own home, your local college catering for early years education can advise on this.
