Hi Steph! Nobody will judge you on your family not being religious: that’s not your fault or responsibility! First things first, are you over 14? Are you pregnant or nursing? If you are under 14 or pregnant or nursing you should not fast at all. You should also eat meat except for the obligated days of abstinence which is Ash Wednesday and Good Friday (the Friday before Easter) and the Fridays throughout Lent. Now that we cleared those up — yes, many Catholics, especially priests hold the fast throughout Lent. The husband and I do as well. You eat two small meals during the day that when put together will not equal a standard size meal. You eat a standard, if not smaller-than-usual meal of simple ingredients for dinner. There will be recipes from around the world on the Lenten calender that comes with the rice bowls handed out tomorrow at church. Those are good examples of simple meals. Make sure your meals are healthy and not junk food full of sugar because those will leave you quick
