Public Park flying – Does MAAC Insurance cover us when we fly at a public park?

Yes, provided you have the permission of the owner of the property, obey the MAAC Safety Code and Post the Warning Signs as required. Many municipalities now prohibit the flying of model airplanes in a public park. If they do MAAC insurance will not extend to provide you coverage, as it is then an illegal act. Insurance policies never cover illegal acts. Municipal by-laws are generally the place to find such restrictions; a park authority may post signs as well. We discourage flying in public parks as we think that there is the potential for serious injury (even in some cases with the small electric models known as “park flyers”). It is also extremely difficult to keep members of the public and particularly children at safe distances.
