There are temperature differences BECAUSE there is no atmosphere to keep all the heat in. On the bright side (side facing Sun), it’s really hot because no clouds and stuff reflect sunlight. On the dark side (away from Sun) it’s cold because no clouds and stuff to keep the heat in. The extreme opposite is Venus, with too much atmosphere and virtually no temperature difference.
