Prostate biopsy using probe & ultrasound–pros & cons. What are good medical sites to answer questions about this?
I can only assure you that it will be uncomfortable, but the biopsy itself shouldn’t cause any particular problems. My dad complained for several days afterwards of difficulty sitting. However, be prepared to get them done regularly. My dad’s biopsy was positive, but the doctor speculates that the biopsy itself removed the entire malignancy because he has never shown any further signs of a tumor. He does sometimes have elevated PSAs, but that’s about it. So that’s a big plus in that the biopsy may “cure” you, but don’t count on it. So the main pro of the biopsy is that it will determine whether or not you need further treatment. The sooner a problem is identified the greater your chance of successful treatment. I’m sure you know what some of the downsides to prostate cancer are. You probably won’t die from it, but it could significantly reduce your quality of life. So it’s worth doing.
