Prohibitions — what can I do in a national marine conservation area?
You couldn’t explore for, or extract minerals, aggregates, oil or gas. Dumping substances into the waters of a national marine conservation area is also prohibited, except as authorized by a permit from the area’s superintendent. Parks Canada doesn’t intend to include existing sources of industrial and municipal waste within the boundaries of a national marine conservation area. In especially sensitive areas, there may be other restrictions to protect features such as habitats of endangered species, wetlands, colonial bird habitats, shipwrecks, and archaeological sites. At the June open house meetings, you will have the opportunity to comment on possible ways to protect these features.
