The answer at present is no, because these sites have declared that they will only show properties marketed by estate agents. A cartel therefore appears to be in operation, suggesting there is is an attempt to maintain an agent’s monopoly. We believe these organizations should be asked for a proper explanation, so that a proper conclusion can be reached and any appropriate action (e.g. unfair contract terms) should be taken by the authorities. We would naturally be keen to be involved in any debates examining such important issues as these. Since agent-funded sites won’t carry private web adverts, direct property marketing sites that claim to be able to show an advert on these sites, would appear to be misleading us all. Although we accept it may be reasonable for estate agent owned sites like rightmove to refuse direct private owner advertising, they should definitely allow IPRs like us to place paid-for advertising with them, if they want to level the playing field.
