Let’s make sure we know what we are talking about when we say ‘pray to’ the Saints. This is something that confuses a lot of non-Catholics. They misunderstand our veneration it to be “idolatry” and “worship of people” instead of God, (as if we make Saints to be like gods themselves). We don’t. Prayer is not worship. We ask them for prayers. In the end, all prayer is directed to the Father through Christ who is “the one mediator between God and men.” (1 TM 2:5) We give honor to the Saints and ask them to pray to the Lord on our behalf, but worship is something we give to God and teach others to give to God. There is a bond that unifies all committed followers of Christ, whether they are alive in Heaven, or alive on earth.
