Possible future in graphic design can lead to health risks?
First off, any job can lead to a health risk. In my opinion, a job in the PC industry is usually the safest type of job over many other jobs because you are not breathing in dangerous chemicals, carrying or operating heavy duty machinery, or working in any other type of dangerous environment. Yes, graphic design can lead to health risk. Your eyes may go a little bad, but nothing is worse than staring a video games. As long as you are least a foot or two away from the screen and sitting in an upright position, you should be okay. I was sitting on the floor for the past two years as my laptop was on a coffee table and my knees would kill me. This year, I bought a brand new desk and chair and I am much more comfortable and I can’t see any health problems happening to me in the next 20 years regarding the PC. I write code, I don’t really design, but same category.
Good question – I don’t think graphic designers are at any greater risk than other computer desk jobs. I’m a graphic/web designer and I’ve worked long hours on a computer (graphic designer) for years. Decent chair – no back problems. Wrist support – no carpal tunnel. My eyes do get tired sometimes. I read somewhere that people don’t blink as much when they’re working on a computer. Eye drops, artificial tears and frequent breaks do the trick… I love designing so much, I’m willing to live on the wild side and take the risk.
