Sybil is the movie. Sally Field plays the Sybil Isabel Dorsett who suffers from multiple personalities…up to 16 co-existing personalities. Now known as “dissociative identity disorder”. The movie was based on a real life The person’s real name was Shirley Mason. The book implied that Mason suffered from the condition as a result of severe sexual abuse at the hands of her mother, whom was speculated to of suffered from schizophrenia. The book was turned into a movie, starring Sally Field, in 1976. Yes, most certainly portrayed the elements of abnormal behavior accurately. She shifted between personalities in order to protect the real her and act accordingly by using one of her personalities when she herself could not speak for what she thought or felt. For instance, when she was angry she would bring out a certain person who would take over and insist that the person be called by that name not Sybil because she honestly believed she was not Syblil she would act in a way that an angry
