You can cancel two numbers if you can think of a number that can go into both of them. If you can, then go ahead and do divide it into both of them, cross both of them out and replace them with the result of dividing that number into them. Write these out on a piece of paper with me for a minute. 2/3 x 3/4. The 3’s are crossways from each other, and you know that 3 can go into both of them, so do it. Divide 3 into each 3 and replace that 3 with a 1, because the 3 went into the 3 one time. Next, with that same problem, 2/3 x 3/4, you look and see that the 2 and 4 are opposite each other, too, and you think for a minute and see that 2 will go into both of them, so do that. Divide 2 into the 2. It will go one time, so cross it out and put 1. Divide 2 into the 4. It will go 2 times, so cross it out and put 2. When this really helps is when you are trying to multiply fractions with big numerators and denominators. Then it really helps to reduce them to smaller, easier numbers that are easie
