Please help!! 2006 Lincoln Navigator running board…..?

I have a 2006 Lincoln Navigator with the power running board that is supposed to “glide out” when the doors are opened. It is now sometimes not coming out at all and when it does, it makes a horrible sound. My dealer can’t get me in for service until next week. I do have knowledge of automotive repair and have done many repairs on other cars, so if you can tell me what to do I am sure I can accomplish it. Thanks!
