Please explain the quantity limit for diapers. Why is DME different from Home Health?

The quantity limit on diapers applies only to diapers provided by and billed by a DME provider. The quantity limit is 192 diapers per month. If the diapers are provided and billed by a home health agency or a case management agency, there is no hard quantity limitation. That is because, in those cases there is a nurse or a case manager justifying the medical necessity of and appropriateness of the supply. In DME, there is no such “gatekeeper,” so instead there is a quantity limitation.
