Vermont statutes allow for funding to school districts at 30% of approved school construction costs. Two years ago it became apparent that funding for approved school construction would need to be appropriated over several years to complete payments for previously approved projects. Since this realization, the state passed a moratorium on funding for most school construction. One exception under the moratorium applies to school construction for consolidating school buildings. School construction projects which eliminate a building are eligible for 50% state aid of eligible construction costs and are exempt from the moratorium. This exception is available to us because of the hard work our board members, facility members and our legislative representatives who petitioned the state to make some state construction funding possible.
