Plan on changing my garage into a bedroom. Do I need to contact the county tax office before the change over?
You will need to pull a building permit. You are converting non-occupied space to occupied space. It will need to be inspected to ensure that it meets code. You can try to get away without a permit, but when (not if) you are caught, you will pay all permit fees, fines, plus if your inspector is a jerk, he will make you take the drywall off to inspect the wiring, insulation, etc. Hope this helps.
