Persistent Upper Jaw Pain – Where do I go now?
Expert: Joel S. Teig, DMD, FABOMS – 8/9/2009 Question I’m just trying to figure out where to go next for a diagnosis of my upper left jaw pain. I have a wonderful endodontist, family dentist, ENT, and endocrinologist (thyroid cancer) all of whom have run out of ideas. Some background: I’m a 57 year old female, retired from executive positions in the computer industry, in otherwise good health. Stress is delightfully low, except for this pain in my jaw that also radiates down my throat and affects my neck. I have root canals in all the teeth on the upper left where the pain persists in the jawbone itself. My endodontist nor my family dentist and ENT can see anything else wrong. I also have a bridge on this left side. No one believes the pain to be related to TMJ, or bite alignment problems. I had two neck surgeries for thyroid cancer in 2005 followed by high dose oral I131 radiation therapy. In 2007 I had larynx surgery to promote better breathing (paralyzed vocal cords from thyroid sur
