Peppa Pig: Will careless pork cost lives?
When one thinks of all the charges that could be levelled against Peppa Pig, failing to wear a seatbelt seems the least of it. For the benefit of the blessedly uninitiated, Peppa is a cartoon character designed to hold small children in a brain-rotting trance while Mummy checks her emails and puts a wash on. Personally, what I dislike most about Peppa – apart from the banal animation – is her high-pitched, tittering laugh. It’s the kind of girlish trill that turns small boys into life-long misogynists, and makes it very hard for Mummy to concentrate on those emails. Still, I wouldn’t have guessed there was anything actually life-threatening about Peppa. Turns out, I haven’t been looking hard enough. All this time, Peppa has been going on family outings in the car without wearing a seatbelt. In future – following protests from safety-conscious parents – she will be firmly strapped in.
