People of Qatar please,who is sheikh hamad bin ali al-thani?
Not “Hamad” as in the current ruler, rather “Ahmad” , his name is Shaikh Ahmad Bin Ali Bin Abdullah Al-Thani The current Qatar ruler’s father , Sheik Khalifah of Qatar , deposed this Sheik Ahmed on Feb 22nd 1972 and took over the country , while Sheik Ahmed was visiting Dubai (UAE) in early 1970’s. Rumor is Sh. Hamad’s father did not want Qatar to be part of UAE while Sheik Ahmed, that you are asking about, was for Qatar being part of UAE . After the 1972 coup Shaikh Ahmed Al-Thani spent exile in Dubai, at his creekside palace next to Al Maktoum bridge, until his passing away in 1977. Interestingly when Sheik Khalifah of Qatar was also deposed by his son (in early 1990’s) , after returning from Switzerland he spent exile in UAE as well until a few years later Shaikh Hamad (current) invited him back home to Qatar.
