Paxil Question: Is Paxil safe to take for anxiety?
Paxil belongs to a group of anti-depressants called Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors. These are used extensively to treat depression because of the short onset of action, minimal side effects and overall effectiveness. They are also used in other conditions besides depression, especially Manic/Depressive Disease and Anxiety Disorders. They may be very effective in anxiety and panic disorders. Side effects include headache, abdominal pain, palpitations, sweating, nausea, dry mouth, constipation, diarrhea, sleepiness, vertigo, tremors and difficulties with ejaculation and sexual drive. In general, these drugs appear to be very safe. My patients generally tolerate them well, with the major complaint being a lack of sexual interest.
