Parenting Thoughts: Why Not Babywise?
Gary Ezzo has sold millions of copies of his book “Babywise” and the Christian version “Growing Kids God’s Way.” People think that if so many people have used his methods, they must be good. However, that is not necessarily true. First, Gary Ezzo is not more qualified to write parenting books than I am because I am a mom. Gary Ezzo does not have a degree in medicine, psychology, education, or any other area of study that would assist an individual in developing a child rearing philosophy. In the Christian world, he claims qualification based on the fact he is a pastor of a church. However, he does not have a theological degree, either. He became a pastor based on “life experiences” not education. I personally do not feel that just being a pastor gives a person more insight into child rearing.
