Page 425 Contoversy: Will Government Health Care Turn Us Into Slaves? Friday August 7, 2009 About.com’s resident folklorist David Emery takes on hysterical rumors about page 425 of the controversial health care bill — and it seems many readers are afraid that the federal government is going to turn Americans into slaves. Dave quotes an email floating around claiming that the feds will require everyone on social security to undergo counseling every five years, essentially to push them into doctor-assisted suicide, so that Medicare costs would come under control. Don’t worry. Dave points us to the actual bill, and it hardly condemns seniors to an early death. Let’s all take a deep breath. It’s August. The Yankees are in first place. All is good.
