Our organization already sends data to another local / regional surveillance system. How will BioSense coordinate?
BioSense has been developed to provide an integrated national view for electronic biosurveillance while supporting the needs of state and local public health partners. BioSense is not intended to replace current local or regional surveillance systems where they exist. Rather, BioSense is intended to augment these efforts with additional data, jurisdictional views, and analytic techniques to further characterize an outbreak or event. However, there are some jurisdictions in which no other electronic biosurveillance system exists. In those cases, BioSense is a viable solution to meet local electronic biosurveillance requirements. In addition, some system costs for development can be provided by CDC.
