Other than France and NorCal, what regions in the world are famous for wine?
Spain, Italy, Portugal, Germany in the north and probably Argentina and I think Southeastern and Southwestern Australia has become wildly popular. There has to be a pretty temperate climate to grow good wine grapes and from what I have observed is that similar quality wines can be produced from similar geographic regions. I’m originally from Rhode Island and we have vineyards there that have been compared favorably with French and Californian vineyards because they lie around the same latitude. If you look at the world map you’ll see that the wine regions of South Africa, Australia and Argentina fall into the same latitudes in the southern hemisphere…. somewhere between 50 and 30 degrees. ( wikipedia) Here is an extensive list of wine producing regions in numerous countries including maps.
