OSU Physics Faqs : Computing (general) : Email : How do I uuencode a file?
Uuencode [uudecode] is a utility for encoding [decoding] files exchanged on a network, particularly by email. Suppose we have the file test.doc that we want to encode as test.doc.uu (it is standard practice to append .uu to the name of the file) so that it has the filename newtest.doc when uudecoded.
