One question, I neglected to ask was how far above the tank should I place the metal halides?

My clam lives on the bottom of the tank (on 3″ of sand), but the corals are about middle of the tank. I do not have live rock going high up in my tank; all the live rock builds up to about 1/2 the depth of the tank where the corals and any new clams would go, so I assume this has an affect on where the lighting is placed.
