Once youd heard rock oll, how did you start getting involved in it?
I skipped school to go and get tickets for Bill Haley, and that’s part of the drive that got me going, I guess. We had to get to the theatre about four in the morning. We were going to skip morning school and feign illness, and go in in the afternoon. In fact we didn’t get our tickets until about midday, we got these seats, the cheapest and in any case the only ones left, at the back of the circle, and we thought, it’s gone lunchtime now, no point in going in for the last couple of hours, so we went back to my house and played records. Somebody must have snitched, because somehow it was discovered that we had gone to get these tickets, not just for ourselves but for a whole group that wanted to go. Loss of prefect’s badge and all that went on. Terrible state of affairs for a while – big arguments with the teachers, how stupid we were, throwing away our education for this one-hit wonder. Then the night of the concert, of course, was fantastic. I’m not sure if there was even an announcem
