Once this nomination process is complete and a list of financially constrained projects is adopted, what mechanisms are there to update the plan?
MARC is federally required to update the long-range transportation plan every five years. If the Kansas City region is classified in non-attainment for any criteria air pollutants, such as ground-level ozone, MARC is required to update the plan every four years. Additionally, if any major new state or federal laws or regulations that relate to transportation are promulgated, MARC must determine if the changes are significant enough to warrant an update. Finally, there is the possibility of interim plan updates to reflect significant changes to projects such as major changes to the scope or budget, deleted projects, or new projects accompanied by new revenue not already accounted for in the financial plan.
