A. We recommend that our customers have a sample of their oil analyzed by a reputable laboratory. We will be happy to recommend a reputable lab if you do not have one. The lab analysis is inexpensive, completely unbiased and is capable of giving: A complete spectrochemical and physical analysis (amount of metal particles) Physical property test (% of fuel dilution, % of solids volume and % of water volume) Viscosity test Total base number test (TBN – which measures the reserve alkalinity of the oil) Total acid number test (TAN – which measures the total acidity of the oil) Additive levels.
