Once the arbitrators have been appointed, what are the next procedural steps?
After the Chairman has been appointed, all further communications pertaining to the proceeding must go to the Chairman. Copies of any documentation sent to the Chairman should also be simultaneously sent to the other arbitrators and to the other party. In New York arbitration, arbitrators must make disclosures of their relationships with the parties, the lawyers involved and with the other arbitrators on the Panel. If you are a Claimant and want to press your case, you should ask for disclosures so that you can start presenting your case. Disclosures may be made by mail or verbally at the first hearing.
