On what principles and programs is Game On! The Ultimate Wellness Challenge based?
The program is founded on U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and U.S. Department of Education principles, other outstanding programs, Action for Healthy Kids studies and initiatives, and resources from other leading organizations. The program is based on the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans’ “Food Groups to Encourage,” the USDA’s MyPyramid standards and the President’s Challenge initiative to encourage physical activity. It draws from several successful federal programs, such as Team Nutrition (USDA), KidsWalk-to- School (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), Media-Smart Youth: Eat, Think, and Be Active! (National Institute of Child Health and Human Development) and We Can! Ways to Enhance Children’s Nutrition and Activity (National Institutes of Health).
