On a mammogram, BIRAD 3 is considered a 2% chance of malignancy. What percent, please, is BIRAD 4 of malignancy?
The categories BIRAD 4 and 5 refer to mammograms that are suspicious enough in the case of BIRAD 4 to strongly consider a biopsy, and in the case of BIRAD 5 to require a biopsy. Although the literature may differ, and the actual practice CERTAINLY differs from published data, the mammograms with BIRAD 4 have about a 20%-40% rate of malignancy when biopsied and the BIRAD 5 over 40% rate of malignancy.
