When the gas engine runs, all MPG data is displayed. When the engine is off and running on electric, the Instant MPG gauge displays infinite MPG as 9999, indicating no fuel flow. The miles driven are still being added to Current Trip, Todays Trips and Tank since fill-up, lowering overall MPG and showing true overall average.
