Olympus advertises that the Stylus 1000 is weatherproof. How does Olympus define weatherproof?
Olympus weatherproof cameras feature protection from inclement weather equivalent to the IEC Standard publication 529 IPX4. They will resist dust, snow and water splashed from any direction. It is possible, though not common, for water to enter the camera when the lens is in motion, such as when the camera is powered on in a shooting mode, when the optical zoom is operated, or when the cameras Power Save mode turns the camera off after a period of idleness. If water splashes onto the lens barrel, gently wipe it off immediately with a soft, lint-free cloth. Please note that Olympus cameras described as weatherproof are not waterproof and should not be immersed in water. Olympus will not assume responsibility for any damage caused by water getting inside the camera as a result of misuse. Also, the rechargeable battery and other camera accessories are not weatherproof. Care should be taken when using accessories.
