OK, so what are they?
The first is Ad-Aware, which you can get at “http://www.lavasoftusa.com/”. There are three versions of the program; be sure to get the free one. It is simple but effective, and is the anti-spyware tool I use on my own computers. The most important thing to remember about Ad-Aware is that you need to update it, just like you update an antivirus program; however, the free version doesn’t do this automatically, so you need to click the link in the program to “Check for Updates Now” before you run it. The second is Spybot, which you can get at “http://www.safer-networking.org/”. It is a bit more complicated than Ad-Aware, but it does automatically update itself. I have much less experience with it personally, but several of the techs in UCS swear by it.
