That’s one way around the situation. However, this strategy requires careful timing as well as the services of another thief while she’s gaining levels in the new class. One approach is to try and get her to 6th level before doing Cloakwood., then run around killing and looting until she’s close to regaining her thief functions (that could be quite some time). There are quite a few places in this game where the thief is the only absolutely indispensable class. Please see the special section on dual classing for a number of intriguing ideas on when and how to switch classes. I wouldn’t say indispensable, but certainly they make it very easy in some places. Don’t forget clerics can detect traps and a fighter with protection can take quite a few. For scouting a combination of boots of speed and invisible is good, and rangers can also stealth.
