Ok, exactly what does “real time rendering” mean and how does it come into play with MH3D? I see the options for it whenever I render to a file, but they always seem to be greyed out.
Real time rendering is software or hardware rendering that occurs at a much faster rate than final rendering with the software based rendering engine in the application. Usually real time refers to rendering that occurrs in a special chip on your video board. It fairly crudely renders the image on your screen, and allows you to interact with it (scale, twist, move etc.) while it remains rendered; kind of like a video game. For most of us, “real time” is a bit of a misnomer– it takes some serious hardware on the video board to actually manipulate a rendered scene of any complexity. But, it is much much faster than final rendering, and is usefull for setting lights and tweaking control points, and for getting very fast test renders of animations. The degree of rendering that the card does in “real” time depends on it’s hardware– bigger, better more expensive cards support higher resolution textures, better lighting, bumpmaps and transparency. For example, MH3D for the PC supports hardw
