OK Christians, How Can a Person Actually Love Their Enemies, & When Was it Done in The Bible?
I want to start by saying I’m not going to push God down your throat or try in any way to convert you. I’m a very liberal Christian – so liberal that many don’t think I should use the label “Christian.” That said, there are many instances. The most famous being Jesus’ quote as he was dying: “Forgive them, father, for they know not what they do.” Jesus forgave Peter for denying he knew him before Peter had even done so. When taunted, Jesus generally calmly answered the questions put to him. It’s true that Jesus showed GREAT anger at times. But being angry is not the same at hating; in fact, often we’re angry at those we love when we see them doing things not in their own best interest or in the interests of their fellow humans. As far as the Old Testament, the story of the Exodus is one of God’s loyalty to his people even though his people were not always loyal to him. And yes, there is much violence in the Old Testament.
