In 1982 Grivel obtained a patent on its modular head system, allowing interchangeable blades and shovels. Today, this remains as the safest and most reliable system for producing highly technical ice axes. In 1986, Grivel was the first to market a technical ice axe with a curved shaft, the competition followed. Grivel, in 1988 was the first to propose the converse shovel that youll find on lots of todays ice axes. Grivel established the new technical standard for crampons in 1993 with the now legendary Rambo, now in its third evolution. In 1996 Grivel established a new standard and new geometry for technical icefall axes with the Machine. Have a look at all the ice axes in the shops and youll see the Machines structure time and again.
