Oi! Are you surprised that Lewis Hamilton didn win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year?
I wasn’t so much surprised as relieved that justice was done for once. Chris Hoy’s performance in Beijing was the best at a single Olympics by any Briton in the last 60 or 70 years. He absolutely deserved last nights award more than anybody else, and that is really saying something in such a superlative year for British sport. His success makes me very proud of being both Scottish and British. In an Olympic year, an Olympic competitor was always going to win. Considering that, Lewis Hamilton did brilliantly to get second place. By the way, the pre-show favourite for the award was Rebecca Adlington. Hoy was second favourite and Hamilton was an outsider.
Oh Sir Alan I haven’t watched that since Desert Orchid trotted onto the set many years ago, not sure if he won it or just made a personal appearance, but I’m not really surprised that Lewis Hamilton didn’t win, he had been a bit reckless this year with his driving and others deserved it more. Personally I would have awarded it to the young girl who won the swimming at the Para Olympics in Beijing this year, she was amazing….
