Oh Mirror on my Gazing Ball: Whats the Tackiest of Them All?
Bowling Balls Yes, you read that right. We had a couple of entries with bowling balls last year, including the one at left. Bowling balls in and of themselves are tacky because bowling is kind of a tacky sport. But in the yard? I guess it depends on how you use them. They can be an inexpensive form of the garden orbs that are sometimes used in England to keep people from driving onto the lawn. They COULD be a sturdy substitute for a gazing ball. IF you take care to hide those finger holes. But if they are marbled in black and neon blue, or if they are candy apple metallic red or green, and if they are just sitting around doing nothing in particular – they’re still tacky. My husband saw a granite orb used as a fountain at a show somewhere and was awed by its utter simplicity. The trouble began when he became convinced that he could recreate it using a shiny black bowling ball.
